CONTINUED FROM ‘How To Create A New Beginning – Part III

In the previous two posts, I talked about fixing yourself and your life.

In this post, I’ll be discussing about something else.

It is this:

YOU MUST GET RID OF EVERYTHING THAT REMINDS YOU OF YOUR OLD LIFE.

Anything and everything that carries a negative memory with it must go!

This is important because to the world, an object may just be an object.

But to us, it might be the most painful thing imaginable. It’s not because the objects by themselves are painful but rather because a painful memory has permanently attached itself to it in our minds.

To give you an example, let’s say that you have a beautiful glass sculpture with you in your living room. It is simply dazzling and spectacular. Anyone who looks at it would desire it beyond belief.

There is however a catch; the sculpture was gifted to you by your ‘soulmate‘ and the love of your life, who after say, 10 years of a relationship told you that he/she was cheating on you the whole time and then walks out without a second thought.

Now tell me. What would happen to that sculpture?

Would you still value it in the same way that others would?

To the world, it’s an amazing glass sculpture but to you, it’s a symbol of a decade of pain and betrayal. It will seem different to you as compared to others.

The point is that it’s not the object or item in itself that is bad but rather the memories attached to it.

There are of course other things too but I’ll discuss that later.

In general, There are only two things that you can do here from my own experience: ARCHIVE or DISPOSE.

…………………………………………

I’ll explain each of them in detail below:

1.) ARCHIVAL :-

To some, the idea of throwing things away might be a little too much.

I have experienced this as well. There are a few things that I can’t stand but at the same time, I don’t feel like throwing them away. I can’t say that it’s the case for a lot of objects and items but there are a handful of them that I still cling on to.

To the sentimental and emotional types, the best solution would be to get a giant box or something similar and store away all of the nasty memorabilia. After that, keep it in a place that is hard to reach like an attic or some deep corner in the basement.

You could even do something like put a padlock on it and throw away the key in a lake.

Something you’ll definitely need to think about is that if you’ll never want to see them again for the rest of your life, what is the point of keeping them? What exactly are you trying to hide or prove? Ask yourself this and answer honestly.

2.) DISPOSAL :-

To the more emotionally hardened souls out there, this is the perfect solution.

I’m not saying that you should be cold and heartless, but your emotions must be under control at all times.

Just remember that you need to have the heart involved but the intellect has to be in charge. 😉

I don’t think that I need to stress much about this.

You’ll need to permanently destroy all that physically reminds you of your old life; clothing, knick-knacks, paperwork, photos, jewellery, objects, trinkets, furniture, utensils,…anything and everything that physically reminds you of your past MUST BE DESTROYED!

Do whatever it takes; SELL! AUCTION! RECYCLE! DELETE! TRASH! THROW! BURN!

GET RID OF IT ALL!!!

  • If you have a piece of clothing that reminds you of your ex, TRASH IT!
  • If you have cards and love letters from a two-timing ex, BURN IT!
  • If you have objects that are too painful to keep but too expensive and valuable to throw, SELL it or AUCTION IT!
  • If you have some songs or movies that remind you of a painful chapter of your life, DELETE IT!
  • If you have a lot of knick-knacks that carry excess baggage from the past, THROW IT!

After you are finally done with it, you’ll feel like a heavy cloud of negativity and pain has just been lifted of your chest by some heavenly force!

I have myself done it and it feels great!

For example, I got rid of a couple of really good shirts simply because they had a lot of baggage behind them and the moment I did it, I felt relaxed and got a huge sense of relief.

…………………………………………

There is ONE category that needs special attention. These are living, breathing entities that have memories attached to them called ‘PEOPLE’.

You can’t ‘sell’ or ‘auction’ or ‘recycle’ or ‘delete’ or ‘trash’ or ‘throw’ or ‘burn’ people. But the good news is that you can GET RID OF THEM!

Simply get rid of these people from your life. Cut off all contact with them. Block their phone numbers, email ids, delete them from social networking (facebook, twitter, etc…), etc.

If necessary,  cut off relations even with mutual friends because you might end up meeting whoever you are trying to avoid.

If things are REALLY serious, meet a lawyer, go to court and get a restraining order to LEGALLY keep that person away from you. Either he/she stays away or the law will take him/her away! 😉

LEAVE BEHIND and FORGET about all of the useless bipeds in your life. There are 7 billion people on this earth. A few pieces of useless scum are about as valuable as a few specks of dirt underneath your shoe.

REALLY, THEY MEAN NOTHING SO STOP PRETENDING LIKE THEY ARE!

GET RID OF THEM WHOLESALE IF YOU HAVE TO!

Just remember that when I say, ‘GET RID OF THEM’, I don’t imply hurting them. They might be scum but DON’T DO anything illegal!

You are almost at the finish line. There is just one more topic that I would like to talk about and you’re all set!
