Are you afraid of something?

Have you ever had anything in your life that intimidated you?

I have. I’m sure that WE ALL have…

WELCOME TO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF FEAR!

 

Everyone without exception feels fear in their lives at one point or another.

Some might put on a brave face but don’t be fooled because they are just as scared as you; then again, maybe they are more scared than you are!

I say this because we have been put under the notion that fear is something that only ‘certain’ people deal with while everyone else are brave lions.

The truth is really something else.

Therefore, if you have any fear in life, don’t get all depressed and lose confidence thinking that you are an anomaly; you are actually about as normal as anyone else.

 

While that might settle the psychological trauma and worries that we are some kind of oddballs, the fear will still remain…

…and CONTINUE to haunt our lives and ruin it, if we don’t deal with it properly.

 

First, let’s take a look at fear itself for what it REALLY is.

Here is the definition I got in Google for the query ‘fear meaning’:

“An unpleasant emotion caused by the threat of danger, pain, or harm.”

That’s pretty much what it is.

It is just an emotion and nothing more. As much as people make a big issue out of it, it’s not a monster or a demon.

Also, while I don’t mean to drag you into a biology class, I think that some knowledge of evolution would help to understand this emotion better.

The emotion of fear basically evolved to save us from things that could potentially kill us (or hurt us in any way) if we were not careful: heights, wild animals, fire, etc. If the emotion didn’t exist, we wouldn’t be here right now because our ancestors would have happily walked into a lion’s den or jumped off a cliff!

And that explanation applies equally well to fear in animals.

So, that’s the biological concept of fear in a nutshell for you.

Fear, simply put, was a protective mechanism that helped people to discriminate between good or bad, so as to increase the odds of them surviving and passing their genes to the next generation…and keep them alive long enough to ensure that their offsprings made it to adulthood and passed on THEIR genes…and so on.

 

Coming to the modern era…

We have evolved from being savages in caves to becoming city slickers and watching mind numbing television six hours a day…

Quite an achievement for a species if you ask me… 😛 😉

Today, fear has become useless in the modern world, with regard to it’s original purpose; I mean, how often do we have to fear being eaten by big cats or getting gored by charging rhinos?

I must add here that even today, we still deal with risks in many things like finance, relationships, friendships and so on, where fear can be useful in maintaining some precautions. I am not denying this in any way.

I am merely pointing out the irony that the very biological program that was meant to protect us, has today become a hindrance to our growth and is DESTROYING US!

Now, this is not an excuse to become reckless and start doing insane things simply because you can; on the contrary, a bit of erring on the side of caution CAN be a wonderful thing. No, I’m merely referring to the paralyzing fear in our life that stops us from getting what we want; fears such as:

  • Fear of entrepreneurship
  • Fear of success
  • Fear of strangers
  • Fear of talking to girls (or maybe boys if you are a girl)
  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of hard work
  • Fear of this, that and everything in between…

 

Which brings us to the simple question of,

 “How To Deal With Fear In Life?!”

What I have seen is that there is no way to get rid of fear.

As disappointing as it may be, WE CANNOT GET RID OF FEAR!

Drill it into your head…

WE CANNOT GET RID OF FEAR!

If you still insist on finding out a way, maybe we could some day genetically engineer people to never feel it or something like that…who knows…

So then, what do you do?

Well, the answer sounds painful and you will not like it, but the truth is that you’ll need to learn how to live with and deal with fear.

You ignore it.

You endure it.

You work alongside it.

You work with it.

You do anything & everything to make sure that you keep moving forward WITHOUT paying attention to what fear is telling you; by the way, do realize that this does NOT include REASONABLE CAUTION.

There IS no other solution to it.

Fear is biologically programmed in us. We can’t get rid of it even if we wanted to.

It’s here to stay even if we wanted to get rid of it!

But then again, as a quote by Mark Twain goes:

“Courage is not the absence of fear…It is acting in spite of it!”

 

So that’s it!

It’s not rocket science or brain surgery.

It’s just plain old wisdom that’s been lost over the ages.

Remember that old cliche? They REALLY MEANT IT when they told you that you have to face your fears…

YOU REALLY DO HAVE TO FACE YOUR FEARS!

 

Alas, there is but ONE MORE THING that I would like to mention about dealing with fear.
